Ideas to replace an old, broken border

Hi all, we have moved into a property with a large, neglected plot. There is an old border at the edge of the lawn that is broken, unsafe and needs removed. We would love some ideas of what to replace it with! Thanks a lot

    One of the quickest replacement methods would be to use sleepers. You could lay them on their side as the rise from paving to lawn is not huge. You would need to bed them in and to do that you will probably need to dig out a bit of a trench so the bottom of the sleeper sits below the hard standing with the top slightly below the grass so you can mow over the edge. Bedding them in with concrete will help them stay put. On the lawn side you should fix them together with something like a flat bracket/joining plate to stop them moving and to keep them in line with each other.

    I think using sleepers is a good idea, probably easier and quicker than building low walls, and definitely more long lasting than log roll. They are quite heavy, but give a neat finish. 
    A quick search for "laying railway sleepers" will give you ideas and inspiration  :)
