Japanese Maple (Acer)

I was wondering if I could get away with planting an Acer in January or Feb. All advice gladly accepted.

Personally I would prefer to wait until the ground warms up a bit more.
January and Feb can sometimes be pretty cold.
Thanks for the advise. If I'm honest, I would rather wait until the weather warms up, but that can be quite early in the year in the South East.
Although you can technically plant anything potted as @amancalledgeorge describes, it isn't the best time of year for a new shrub to establish.
It's certainly the coldest time of year here, and an Acer wouldn't really appreciate trying to get fine roots thriving.
