I would echo the suggestion of Cornflowers, found them very easy myself.

Another one for me is Iberis umbellata (Globe Candytuft). Not noticed more than the odd bumblebee paying them much attention but pretty popular with the butterflies, and very popular with hoverflies.

Assuming by Marigolds you mean Tagetes, there is also Pot Marigold (Calendula officianalis).

I haven't grown them personally but two annuals that almost always get held up for pollinators (usually bees) are Lacy Phacelia (tanacetifolia) and Borage.
  • Thank you all. Quite a lot to have a ponder over.

@Owlbear I was looking at borage seeds. Might give them a go.

@newbie77 what a beautiful show of flowers you have.

I have looked through my seed box as I was certain that I had some Cosmos seeds @AnniD I harvested them at the end of last summer from some Cosmos plants.

@JessicaS let us know how the pink marigolds turn out.

@PurpleRose Pink Nasturtium rather than Marigold - 'Baby Deep rose' - they really are a hot pink!  I'll post some pictures later in the year.

Good time to post this, I have just sorted my seed box into months. This Month has a lot to sow, so here are some suggestions. May I suggest on the perennial front : Penstemon, Agastache and Meadow Cranesbill. As for annuals, Snapdragon is the most prominent January/early sowing plant. I always keep my plants wildlife friendly, so you are covered on that front.

Great thanks @edev08 I have snapdragons in my garden. They just appeared (so self seeded from somewhere) and now quite happily self seed.

Sounds unusual  @JessicaS but I am curious. I have pink daffodils which I have scattered amongst my yellow daffodils. They stand out due to the contrast with the yellow. When people first saw them, I got quite a few comments, some disbelief "do you know that there are some pink daffodils there?" 🤣🤣

@PurpleRoseI thought they might be something a bit different to try! I love nasturtium, and nice and easy so I thought id try a few different colours.  I ordered some Calendula in pinky shades too. I'm quite excited for the 2021 "random seed selections I brought in a an overexcited spree in 2020" planting ;)
