Can you identify this bulb?

Hi novice gardener who has inherited a garden from a keen gardener... can someone tell me what bulb this is?.. I think it is a lily ?.. hope you can help

  • I'd plant it now, about 8 inches (20cm) deep (so there is at least 6 inches (15cm) of soil above the top of the bulb.  Lily bulbs are usually only lifted and dried for sale/transport and are better left permanently in soil, as they slowly dry out otherwise.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
