Janie B I just wondered how your delphinium research went??!! Im looking to get some sort of support for my sisters Xmas present but am deliberating as to what sort would be best for her delphiniums. Any feedback would be fab!

  • Well @charlotteemmapritchard I do use the half moon shaped support featured in the video and if they are in groups then it works well, but for individual plants not so much. It depends on how much support the surrounding plants give too.

For mine, the best ones were the top right... kind of with a large mesh on top of the supports... They were completely hidden once the plants grew, and gave them great support that looked quite natural (ie not all tied into one place). Hope this helps!

@BenCotto were you pleased with your mesh-top supports, too?

Yes, I was. But the stakes went in early in the growing season and the growth spurt later in Spring meant some flowering stems missed the grid they were supposed to grow through. Greater vigilance on my part would not have gone amiss.

  • All that info is really helpful,  thank you. I think I'll go for the mesh topped and a couple of half moon ones. Theres a chap locally who makes them, so they look nice even when not covered by plants. She can always use them for something else if she prefers, it'll give her a couple of options.  Thanks again
