Experiments with Microgreens

I have to say I loath micro greens I do not believe the hype about "packed with nutrients" they can only contain the minerals that were in the seed minus some energy and possibly a few things changed around, (starches to sugars etc) However, if you want some fresh greens right now when everything is either covered in refrozen snow or just frozen solid they are about the only way without really expensive hydroponic and lighting set ups. I grow bean sprouts in 3 old meat trays over winter. For a tbs of seed you get a bowl of sprouts in 5 days. I buy the seeds by the kg from the local Asian store.
Rather a lower tech setup than the OP's!

To the OP I would really suggest going down to your local asian/chinese/indian supermarket (whichever you have close by) and grabbing some of their large packs of beans/spices. They all seem to germinate perfectly well and the price is much much cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestion - will give it a try :-) .

Of course I need to try all of them to see what I like.

Lower tech than iVAR is impressive.

Where are you up to now? I think I should get fairly good results on a windowsill over the winter. It seemed to work, back in the day. I will be growing these again soon.

Interesting question above as to where the "huge amount of nutrient" are supposed to come from in microgreens.
