If ants are a pest in your pots they are either nesting or farming. They like to nest in dry soil so keeping the pots well watered may help; raise them on pot feet or half bricks so the plants don't drown and to make access a bit harder.
If they are farming aphids, then deal with those by spraying them off or squishing and the ants will go elsewhere.
I don't think people realise that slugs don't just crawl along the soil surface @BenCotto If you have drier conditions especially, they head further underground to stay cool and moist. Then they just come back up to the surface, so a ring of anything is fairly pointless as a deterrent. It's all been well marketed though, and possibly works more efficiently in pots.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thanks everyone. I live in Sub Tropical Ballina NSW Australia and technically on an Island. Small ants are the main problem, so I am going to try the 3M copper tape and hope it works.
It won’t deter ants ... why would it? ... they don’t have the slime that slugs have that reacts and causes a chemical reaction with the copper which may (or may not 😉) deter them
You asked us ... we said ‘No it won’t deter ants’. You can choose to ignore us if you like, but the science agrees with us ... you’ll be wasting your money.
Your money ... your choice. 😊
We use ExAnts organic spray to deal with ants around the house, front porch etc. it’s made from essential plant oils and the smell seems to drive them away. It works for us. It’s made in Germany and bought it via Amazon.
Good luck with your garden ... it sounds a lovely spot. I have family in Tas. 😎
