Should I divide up my composter?

  • My wife has been shaking her head at me tearing up cardboard. I’m glad there are others out there that do it. I’d just thought of leaving it out to get wet so glad I’m thinking along the right lines!!

I tear up egg boxes into 1-2cm bits. I'm never short of browns so most cardboard goes in recycling.

I don't tear up egg boxes etc, it resolves in no time. Egg shell, fruit and veg stones, corn cobs, books etc take much longer. But I don't worry, I just toss them into the next bin to take their time.

In my old house circa 2015 I remember opening the dalek compost bin and egg shells fell out :D
Clearly the previous owner din't have a clue.

I have a big compost problem, my lovely new neighbours who have been feeding me all there waste since they moved in last spring have built a compost bin system 😭😭.

No more easy pickings 😭😭 and worse still they've copied my set up but used all posh gear and Mrs Wilderbeast wants to know why mine doesn't look so pretty.

They've used all matching pallets then covered in and out with treated ship lap and lined with corrugated plastic. It looks fabulous. Mind I doubt they'll be out turning heap's at 4 in the morning 🤣🤣

Well done @Wilderbeast for inspiring your community and spreading the word. There is no copying - just sharing.

Oh @Fire how I wish been my maths teacher, she felt my 5 years of copying my mates work was all wrong 🤣🤣. Happy to encourage but they could have had a more ram shackle design and made it smaller, I mean who needs 5 bins !!! Well ok I have 7, but that's me 🤪

Build it and they will come.
  • Perhaps a silly question but is it OK to put old peat free compost in the composter?
  • Perfectly fine ... I reckon that’s a ‘brown’ 👍
