Passion flower problem

Hi guys.

My beautiful Passion flower has a bit of disease on the main shoot. The plant is about 3 years old and goes crazy every year. Is there anything I can do with it to protect it or help it?

Hi @tom_noton and welcome to the forum 😊 Is that a recent photo ... are you in the UK?

That looks like powdery mildew as a result of drought. Planting close to a fence or a wall often suffer from a ‘rain shadow’ effect and dry out at the roots even if it had been raining.
Also there needs to be a much larger area of bare soil around the root area. The grass is competing for moisture and nutrition. If you’re not going to have a proper border along that fence then the minimum your passionflower needs is a semicircle of bare soil 1m in diameter, so that you can mulch and improve the soil (covering those bare roots I can see 😮) and apply feed, and water generously and regularly in the summer.

    Hope that helps 😊

Thank you so much for your reply. Yep that photo was when I made the post. I’m in Nottinghamshire. Thank you for the advice. Is there anything I should do with the actual plant? Nothing i can cover the damage with? Many thanks

    Tom

    Merry Christmas 🎄.
  • It’ll grow replacement leaves in the growing season.
Depending on the variety, it may benefit from some fleece in the cold weather. This should help
