How long can Basil live (indoors growing)

According to google they say 4-6 months that a basil live naturally, is it possible for my Basil plant to live longer then that if i grow it indoors during winter and cold seasons and prune the basil time to time?

If you can stop it flowering by removing the flower spikes when you see them that will keep them going longer.
But eventually you'll notice they start to give up and then you should replace them.

Basil is an annual, so it is designed to grow, flower, then set seed, then die.
By removing the flower spikes you prevent it from setting seed, so it will stay alive and keep trying to flower, but will eventually give up and die.

  • Got one on a north facing window sill that is well over six months old and has flowered and produced what look like seeds but is still alive. Just went to check on it there and it is trying to produce another flower spike but this is the first time I've seen one keep going so long. I've usually had them last a few weeks and they get all cut down and used in food if in the kitchen or get killed by the cold if growing outside.
