Thank you all for your kind comments. I was recenty invited to have the Covid jab, whilst at Guy's hospital. For anyone who might be a bit apprehensive. I assure you, nothing to fear. No one was more shocked than me, when the nurse said. That's it, all done. Just a slight tenderness the next day, nothing more.
Best wishes to you Mike, I find it ridiculous the way some folk are obsessed with Christmas, and knew fully well that we would then be back in lockdown, our council Wealdon according to yesterdays' papers has the lowest rate, yet, along with our neighbours tier 4 after Boxing day. My mother-in-law killed Christmas for us, many years ago, I was working nights, every year she rang demanding to know what we were "doing" Christmas, I would say, going home to bed, no, I never did, we met up with her and various other relatives, at Hubby's brothers' house, bought present on a credit card, which took 6 months to pay off, for stuff people didn;t want, like or need. One year we told her we were't doing it anymore, by October I was going around stressed, crying because we couldn't afford presents. My Hubbys' broher bought for our one daughter, but not my 3 children from my previous marriage even though, usually the younger 2 were with us, I bought for all 3 of him, unfair. One year we said to MIL, please don't buy us presents this year, we aren't buying any. She went bersirk, then rang to speak to Hubby who put the phone down on her, she didn't communicate with us for 23 months. We havent now spoken to anyone of them for 12 years (not Christmas related)
Sounds a lot like Christmas in my previous life @Nanny Beach . I too worked nights and had to visit the ex's family Christmas day after an eleven hour shift. Nice to leave it all behind.
When I was working always hated working afternoon shifts, straight to work after an early dinner, didn't mind mornings or nights but not afternoons, haven't bought presents for adults for many years, and give money instead of presents for the children, feel out of touch with what they like nowadays.
For personal, unhappy, reasons we don't celebrate Christmas. We put on a brace face and made the effort when the children were living at home, but now it's just OH and me it's just another day.
For many years working in retail Xmas day and boxing day were the only 2 days off we had.then straight into sales.i always think of people who have to work at Xmas on or around the day itself.in previous years I've cancelled it.we are all free to celebrate or ignore it.
Hard to ignore something is is constantly rammed in your face going about daily life. Go buy some bog roll in November and we’re bombarded with terrible music. For months, buying milk, cheese, whatever. Go to the post office in your local high street and you see your council tax money wasted on lights and decorations, and then they’ve got the cheek to raise council tax by 3% every year.
