Oh dear! Where did you hear of this variety? It's unusual for a plant to 'disappear ' in that way. Perhaps someone more expert than I will pop up. Good luck.
I can't find it on USA sites either. There was a National Collection of berberis at Sherwood House in Devon but it's no longer listed as a collection. I even tried to find seed.
There was an article on it recently in GW magazine, seems a little lax to do an article on a plant that’s not available. Posy, I don’t think it’s the same as Japanese barberry, it was apparently a cultivar bred at Cheal’s nursery in Crawley (according to this months GWM) I’ll just have to hope someone has seen it out there somewhere and sees this post.
Interesting to learn a bit about Cheal and the landscaping practice he run https://www.parksandgardens.org/people/joseph-cheal so presumably the Berberis must date from the turn of the century to the 20s which may account for the difficulty in finding it on the trade.
