Nerine bulbs- Help!

Hi :)
I would really appreciate some advice. I have just received some Nerine Bowdenii bulbs in the post and as the autumn is well behind us I wonder whether its too late to plant them out? concerned about the frost and huge amount of rainfall we are experiencing.

  • I also would appreciate similar advice, having been given some post-flowering Nerine bulbs.
  • I would probably give them a chance and plant them out making sure that they have some good mulch on the top to aid against frost damage.
However if you don't want to do that then make sure that they are dried on the outside to prevent any fungal issues and then store them in a paper bag in a cool dry place. As they are autumn planted bulbs I don't know if you plant them out in the spring whether you would get any flowers next year.
Depending on how many you have why not try both ways.

I'd put them in a pot too, simply because you are worried.  You'd blame planting them out if they rotted off.  I moved one last spring and it sulked, didn't flower this year but it's unmoved friend did.  They like to bake and mine seem to like to be crowded so for me they're like perennial agapanthus in habit.
