Renting and i want to remove a water butt as i think its overflowing

Hi,
We have recently started renting a place that has a water butt in the garden. As the weather has become very wet lately i have noticed the grass has become very muddy and sludgy. I finally realised it could be the water butt spilling over. Its right by where the grass is in the worst condition. The problem is i cant see how to disconnect it from the guttering. We have a lean to and then a cement shed and then the water butt. I see the water butt is connected to guttering on the concrete shed which then connects to the guttering on the lean to. I stood outside inspecting it all and cant see where the water will drain to if i disconnect it. The main drain pipe is inside the lean to.

Please help as we have always wanted a garden for the kids to play in and now its just the muddiest thing in the world.

Many thanks, eagerly awaiting any advice

Is there not a tap on the water butt so you can fill watering cans?   If so, attach a hose pipe to that and lead it to a drain.

Just removing the water butt won't stop flooding.  The water is still going to come down the gutter and drain pipe.   Try and post a photo of the butt and its downpipe so the more DIY minded can advise.  Use the postcard symbol above the box and make sure the photo is re-sized as there's a limit on here.
