Bare root raspberry canes (Polka)

Finally arrived!!

The date on the delivery note stapled to the package was 16/11/20, which suggests over 3 weeks in transit. Would that warrant a longer soaking in a bucket of water before planting? Is that kind of thing proportional?

  • Not sure if it's proportional but a good 24 hours soak would not hurt. If you have any liquid seaweed (preferably tonic not feed) that will help too.

Unfortunately, I haven't @Allotment Boy. Also, it's going to be more like 36 hours in the bucket as I received a work call earlier that ensures a heavy day tomorrow :(

I'll get them in the ground on Saturday morning and they can start to recover from their long trek from Norfolk :)

Sorry to drag up an old thread but, 6 months on, I think this picture (I've just dug this one up because I can't stand the sight of them occupying space any longer) suggests that the Polka (x5) have failed to take :o

I know it's hard to tell with bare root plants (and I am a complete novice!!) but I didn't like the look of them when they arrived after 3 weeks in transit :(

I lodged this at the time with the supplier and courier but got nothing useful in response other than they were delighted that I'd received my delivery. Let's see how delighted they are to receive my next missive ;)

Looks like you got five dead sticks.  They should replace all of them. September or October is a better time to plant.

Agreed @fidgetbones. Bought in October, dispatched in November, received and planted in December :(

That's very annoying Biglad, must be jumping up and down time. Who was the supplier?

I won't name the supplier just yet @Lizzie27. I'll wait until they've had chance to respond to my complaint. Their only crime so far is sending their stuff with DHL.

However, I'm happy to tell the world how poor DHL are/were. It's a long tale but basically they were delivering every day for a fortnight but then didn't. Their tracker app. had them on the way, on the way, on the way, delivery scheduled for tomorrow. Repeated ad nauseum. Claimed they tried to deliver at one point but "couldn't access the property". No gate, fence, wall or boundary barrier of any description at the front. At least one person in at all times (I wasn't working due to Covid). That was just a lie! At one point I was accessing somebody else's delivery details when I was trying to track mine :o

They flat-batted my complaints with vague statements, which sounded like I was corresponding with a bot.

    To be continued.....
