Sorry, Ergates, I was just gently teasing you and an earlier poster who referenced an online auction site without saying its name. I hope you did not take offence.
Not at all. Just wasn’t sure what the protocol is on this forum. On some, I’d have had my wrist slapped and been banned!

Don’t want to be accused of advertising, thought it was frowned on! It was your first suggestion though, two letter, not two word!
Its worth looking at reviews of an item on several different sites, sometimes you pick up a nugget of information that is relevant to you.
The chief problem has been that Neff came out top in the Which? surveys and a friend has one she loves and rates, yet other online reviews of Neff report the corners breaking or cracking off the induction top, which concerns me. German brands would be ideal but many of the higher spec ones seem to be out of stock. It's a veritable minefield with so many to choose from.

Thanks to all who have posted, this has been a very interesting thread with lots of additional information shared.
  • Good luck...appliance shopping is never straightforward.

Glass hobs chipping is a very common issue @rachelQrtJHBjb with lots of makes. Steer clear of hobs with chamfered edges as this makes them even more prone. You used to be able to find loads of chipped hobs for sale on eBay which says a lot about them

They also keep the kichen clean, we had a range cooker in our last house, gas burners, an electric griddle, electric oven, there was an extractor fan right above the cooker, yet, the tiles and spot lights (which were no-where near) used to get flithy.  it was a once a month job, now its once a year, thanks for info, will see if I can get one of these mats

Hope we won’t have any problems with chipping! I haven’t yet seen what style the edges are on mine, bought it unseen based on reviews and specification and it was a very good price. I’ll have to be very careful with it, no banging the saucepans about!
Neff should in theory be a good make. However my sister has one of their ovens with a door that slides down and back under the oven, and the mechanism has broken several times. To their credit, Neff have repaired and replaced the doors when it’s happened, but the reliability wasn’t brilliant. Didn’t put me off though!

  • Never had a chipping issue with mine but it was totally frameless with a soft rounded edge...people must be really careless to cause damage. Use a lot of cast iron pans too...but a bit of care goes a long way.

  • I have enjoyed reading through this post. We are (hopefully) getting a new kitchen fitted in the spring and have my heart set on an induction hob. Along with the look which I like, I found that i was very impressed with my friends induction hob in her kitchen.

It was in their kitchen when they purchased her property and was very unsure at first about it. Once she got the special pans and started using it she loved it and gave me a demo 🤣🤣
  • Hello All, and thank you for your replies. I think I'm going with a John Lewis own brand (made by AEG) 5 ring induction as it's £300 off and they can install before Christmas.
