Agapanthus Potting

I just received some bare rooted Agapanthus which I'm going to plant in pots. Every where I've looked it says plant in spring. Would it be ok to pot them now and keep in cold greenhouse?
Any advice please.

  • Yes, plant them into smallish pots for now and keep in your cold greenhouse.  Do you know which variety they are (I ask as some are less hardy than others)?

Have they still got leaves? Generally the thinner leaved ones that die down in winter are hardier than the evergreen ones.

There supposed to be Queen of the Ocean and Polar Ice.

There are no leaves on them they should be the
    perennials type.

I was thinking of using 12-18 inch terracotta pots with 3 in each.

Polar Ice is deciduous and hardy.

  • Deciduous hardy yes, but keep them very dry over winter. Wet conditions could cause rot. Good luck.

Are they very tiny plants? In my experience they grow very quickly and I wouldn't put three in a 12 inch pot. It's always said that they like to be snug I have single agapanthus - mature ones - bursting out of pots about 24 inches.
