    thanks @KeenOnGreen never heard of Astelia before.  Had a quick google they look nice and would add some height - good suggestion, thank you!

    Just check - a lot of them [Astelias ]  aren't hardy everywhere  :)

    pretty sheltered where I am ...South Coast in a courtyard type garden so high fences around.... My canna is about to flower again by the looks of it!

    That should be fine. I like them but they don't like my climate   :)

    I can probably whack a bit off next spring and send you it @philippasmith2. That bit is an offcut from the original plant, so it'll be fairly easy to get another piece.  :)
