Do beware of thorns on low branches. My husband didn't believe that one had pierced the thick tread on my welly and stuck into my foot, until it happened to him!
I still have a small piece of thorn (from blackthorn) in a finger joint after a "wooding" excursion on a Girl Guide camp when I was 12. My mum (the Guide captain) didn't believe in taking minor injuries like septic fingers to the doctor, so I was treated with a kaolin poultice. It got better...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I have made sloe gin, sloe vodka and sloe brandy, all very enjoyable. Especially the sloe gin I found recently, made in 1998, it is delicious! not much left now as it was only a small bottle.
I'm finally going to get around to making my Sloe gin this week!
I haven't got any kilner jars and the only thing I've got that is large enough is a Demijhon with a small opening (same as a wine bottle). Worried that I won't be able to get the sloes out afterwards, anybody had any experience at making slow gin in narrow necked bottles?
I don't think it matters as long as you can get the sloes in. They can be shaken out once the gin has infused. If they get stuck you could always just mash them up with a wooden spoon handle and flush them out.
