    These are all very good suggestions and @Fairygirl thank you. I can always rely on you for good suggestions. Can anyone think of anything taller? The area slopes downwards so I wouldn’t be able to see the lower growing bulbs etc unless I was right there.

    Hydrangea Petiolaris, climbing hydrangea might work. You can grow it up one of the oaks, or arrange a climbing frame.
    They are slow to get going, but i have one in a dryish shady spot.

    I love petioralis @Balgay.Hill. I’m training two up the house and want another. Hadn’t thought of that one. I’ll have to consider it. I like the idea of ferns too.

    Euphorbia amagdaloides, Skimmia, Actaea and Polygonatum are a few more that have worked for me.

    In those conditions, I would try Alchemilla Mollis and Bergenia Cordifolia.

    And foxgloves,  nice shallow rooting and self seeding, that should add some hight 😀
