Rose trim

peteSpeteS Posts: 966
Is it still OK to slightly trim my gallica rose. Monty took a pair of shears to his 'old' roses on GW about a month back, just to take off some top weight and minimise any wind damage. I was wondering whether a month later I have missed the boat on being able to do that.

You will lose some blooms, relative to the amount taken, not all of them. I wouldn't do it unless necessary (blocking access somewhere etc.). You've had problems with this rose blooming in the past, don't you just want to see it in full glory? With gallicas, if you need to prune them, they are in a wrong spot. Better moved somewhere when they can thrive to their full potential.

@edhelka...point taken...I shall leave well alone and just give it a bit of support for the winter.
