Potatoes popped up

Some fine looking potato plants have popped up here and there. Are they worth leaving or will they succumb to the cold weather when we eventually get it?

  • They’ll succumb to frost ... if we get any that is 😉

  • Depending on where they have grown, you could try mulching them with straw or similar and leaving them in the ground until next Spring for earlies. Last year I left some potaoes in barrels over winter and have ejoyed the new potatoes, we did have a very mild winter though.
I decided to plant some this autumn for new potaoes at Christmas but we had a couple of frosts last week, very unusual for this neck of the woods and I have lost the lot. Ah well, will have to try again next year. I haven't investigated the pots yet but doublt if there are any potatoes as they had not been planted long enough to form a crop.
    Must have a furtle.

    They're pretty exposed. I doubt they'll survive.

  • Even if they survive the frost I find the slugs get the tubers if you leave them in over winter.
