My Indoor Plants - Sciarid flies

Hi all,

Hope you all are doing well.

I need your assistance please, I never had these so called sciarid flies in my home, but ever since i bought some indoor plants, these flies have become a nuisance and i feel I made a HUGE mistake by buying these indoor plants.

Any help in getting rid of these small black flies would be much appreciated .

Thank you all . Stay Safe .

The flies are laying eggs in the moist compost.
You could keep the compost a bit drier, or add a good layer of grit on top of the compost.
I get them from time to time, but they seem to disappear of their own accord after a while.

As @Pete.8 says - a good layer of grit helps enormously.
Warm, dry atmospheres in houses, and moist compost, is the ideal situation for them unfortunately.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
