For or against?

So I know I'm probably a little bit at trimming back my garden for winter but last year I didnt do it all! and I'm wondering which is better to leave plants to naturally die back and get ready for cold weather or to actually prune back for winter? I suppose its nature or nurture really?! 🤔

I always leave mine.  It acts as protection against frost and provides cover for wildlife. Also when it rots down it feeds the soil.
I don't dig my garden just cut and drop the waste directly in the bed.  Worms break it down.  Less work for me!

I remember a gardener telling me it was best to leave growth as protection from frost.  And a layer of leaves makes good insulation.

I trim back the dead stems etc that are overhanging paths or lawns in autumn, but most of the rest gets left until spring. I sometimes do some cutting back during the winter if I need some brown stuff for the compost bin, to mix in with the kitchen waste.
