    I had to prune my Choisya and Photinia as they grew so big, but they grew back again.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Escallonia.......hard pruned will produce suckering on an established plant.

    My list would be much shorter :)
    Perennials - they die back. Tidy if it looks to offending and if you feel like you want to do it. Deadhead if the future blooms are worth the work (often they aren't) or if you like doing it.
    Shrubs - if it gets too big, prune it. If you are not sure when and how much, check online. If the size is ok, ignore. Deadhead if it looks offending with old blooms (hint: it never does).
    With few exceptions, that's it for me.
