New gardener

Evening all, first time poster here. I have recently moved into my first home and I would like to start growing my own fruit and veg. Mainly alliums, peppers/chillis and herbs. My garden is east facing and was quite over grown. There is a path on the right side with some space that has been dug over.  Am I best using this space as it has been dug or using the other side of the garden which will have more sun ? Will add pictures tomorrow if necessary.

Thanks in advance

Hallo Adam, Welcome to the forum, and to the wonderful world of gardening.  Most herbs and aromatic plants generally do best in dry heat.  That's why Mediterranean cuisine is so full of them!  So have them south facing if possible.  Fruit trees and soft fruit bushes stay put, so don't be in a rush to plant them; improve the soil first.  Same goes for rhubarb and asparagus; they need a permanent home.  Vegetables (including those that are really fruits, such as tomatoes and cucumbers) are mostly annual crops, and it's best to avoid growing them in the same place two years running.  So if you can divide up your vegetable patch into three or better still four areas, you can rotate your different crops each year.
