Transplanting gazania

Good morning everyone

I have got some Gazania I’d like to move but they are still flowering. Ideally they would probably be moved in spring but push has come to shove now haha. Is it worth a gamble?

  • Yes, go for it. They're not hardy so I lift a lot of mine by early Nov, cut them back a bit and put them in pots for over wintering in a greenhouse.
  • Ah ok that’s good that I can do it now. They’ll actually be going back into the ground though.
  • You don't explain why you have to replant them now. Southern England you may get away with it, but really semi-tender plants should only be moved in the spring. Tip: try and keep them dry , they do not like the combination of cold and wet.
Everyone likes butterflies. Nobody likes caterpillars.
  • Ah sorry. Basically someone I know wants them moved all that they can plant roses in their place.
  • If they're getting them out of the ground they surely would have a few spare containers to put them in and protect them from the worst weather and make sure they survive...no point in moving them only to kill them in the process.

  • Yes exactly, I’ll have to ask her if she’s happy with leaving them in the greenhouse until spring.
