Seed not produced on Cup and saucer plant

GrajeanGrajean Posts: 447
I have 3 really healthy Cup & saucer plants still flowering but not a single seed produced. Monty also grew some plants with seed saved from previous plantings, how did he manage that? I am in NW France and its warm here during the growing season but have no idea what pollinates these flowers. I have read bats do and we have bats - not sure what sort they are. As the flowers have fallen I have checked everything left behind not sure what you call them  - haums? not a sign of seeds.

    Have you got a photo?
The seed heads are quite big.
I deadheaded mine, so I didn't get many seedheads, but I think there's a few in this pic

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Here's a seed pod, it's not ripe yet but should give you an idea of what to look for. Not all flowers will create this pod, you'll have to look carefully.

I took this photo just now, so even though I've had a frost and it's late in the year, the vine is still hanging in there.

Thank you both for replying. Sadly nothing like that seed pod. Vines still growing strongly and in pots so may try overwintering them in GH.

I wonder if your drier conditions has made it difficult for the plant to get to that stage?
I wouldn't have thought so - but I can't think of a reason for the flowers not to then produce the seed head.
