    I would never have timber beds without lining them.
    I built some in a previous garden, including a revetment wall  [of exterior ply dressed with decking ]  when we extended the house etc. They're still there - twenty odd years down the line. 
    If you use decent materials to start with, and treat them correctly, they last for donkeys' years.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Have you looked at using pallet collars to build a raised bed? There is a useful video on youtube about building raised beds with them.
    East Dorset, new (to me) rather neglected garden.
