Over pruning

My partner has over pruned our acer today accidentally It’s 7 years old and was quite large,  it is in a pot. There are still some small branches but some stumps!  Any ideas to give it the best recovery please ?

    Leave the secateurs out and put the partner in a locked room. :D

    Maybe add a photo so we can see what overpruned looks like...
