Banana plant

Cannot grow these so no experience. Been asked about preparing one in a large pot for Winter. Cut down to nothing now?  Or move into conservatory and cut in Spring?
Advice please.

    I don't grow them either but I think a lot depends on variety as the common musa is more hardy than, say, the redder leaved versions.   Monty always takes his into shelter for the winter but he has big greenhouses and a pot trolley.  Not something I'd consider even here.

    If the local climate is not too severe I believe the musa forms can be given a deep mulch to protect their crown and roots and then the top needs wrapping in fleece or else a cage stuffed with straw and then protected form cold and wet with hessian and polythene sheeting.    Huge faff!
