Is this a plant or a weed?

Hi, I was gardening today and noticed this - I am not familiar with it and wondered if anybody could please tell me what it is? Thank you!

  • Creeping Buttercup ... pretty but a PITA ... spreads rapidly ... regarded as a weed in most gardens.

It's a creeping buttercup.  The shoot in the top right of the photo will soon root into the ground and produce another plant! They can be a pest in the garden.

Indeed creeping buttercup, it's an amazingly loyal plant, despite all our crazed efforts it comes back 😠😠 Dig it up asap making sure to remove all the roots, then offer a small sacrifice to your favoured god and keep your fingers crossed. I jest clearly but I have major problems with this as it was totally endemic in the old meadow that became our garden and it creeps in from the grass constantly
  • I have it everywhere. Loathe it. I’m constantly trying to get rid of it. And it isn’t pretty.

Same here @Robmarston. I yank bits out of the grass when I spot it, which is where it's a real pest.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • ......   And it isn’t pretty.
I have evidence to the contrary  https://www.pinterest.co.uk/buttercupmeadow/fields-of-buttercups/

  • On the bright side, you get to play a new game I like to call "did you get distracted while weeding and pull out some geranium rozanne as well?"  :/
