Avocado seed HELP !!

Hi !! So I have started growing an avocado seed and it was doing wonderfully. I had it in a cup and the root grew all the way to the bottom of the cup, then there was a little stem coming off of the top of the seed, it looked great. As the root reached the bottom of the glass and it looked like it was bending, I switched the seed to a deeper glass. The stem then stopped growing and now looks dry even though the root kept growing and it has now reached the bottom of the new cup. Any tips ? Thanks !!
