Moss Lawn - When to treat

My lawn has a lot of moss within the grass and each year in spring I scarify it to remove the moss, this leaves me a number of large areas reduced to soil as its mostly moss to start. I will then seed these ares and the grass will grow fine over summer, however before next spring the lawn will be mostly moss again.

What I want to know is.

1) Can I treat the lawn with Iron Sulphate during the winter to kill the moss?

2) If I do treat it should I remove the dead moss as the grass isn't growing over winter?

I'm going to suggest a different way of approaching this, which you may not like  ;)
My front 'lawn', is largely moss too, especially through winter. I do nothing with it until spring, and that means it's at least a green space.
In spring, I apply a weed and feed, but an even better thing to do is to feed first. No weedkiller - just a feed. That means the grass grows as well as the weeds do, so you can then apply the weed and feed. You get rid of the weeds and moss, and the grass is stronger so it fills in the blanks much quicker.
    Worth thinking about  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I do usually leave it all winter but the moss really takes over, I'm hoping to keep the moss at bay over winter reducing effort in spring.
