Does water hyacinth compost?

I'm getting rid of an old, broken wicker basket. Would the woven water hyacinth compost down if I unpicked it from the canes, which look as if they might make reasonable plant supports?
In London. Keen but lazy.

    There's no roots. It was woven around an old laundry basket
