Mushrooms overnight in border!!

Hi guys!
Gardening at my parents today and on their front border a huge load of mushrooms have sprouted almost overnight! I've looked it up online and I think they might be cluster mushrooms? I've got rid of them but really want to know what are the chances they will come back? Looked awful!

They'll come back whenever the weather conditions are right until they've finished doing their job which is heping you to break down any organic matter in the soil into a form that will be accessible to the roots of your plants.

Fungi are the gardener's friend ... we could not garden without them ... and they are beautiful examples of Nature in all her glory.  Enjoy  B)

PS Im not aware of a mushroom called 'Cluster Mushroom' ... a photo would be good ... there's some folk on here who are red hot at their fungi IDs.

  • As you can see it's pretty big.my parents are in their late 80s and my dad has dementia.this has upset him so I want to try and make sure it doesnt come back.his garden was his pride and joy but now he finds the simplest task almost impossible.
  • Can we see the underneath and the stems please? That should help with an ID.

I understand that your father is upset by these and if he has dementia he's not going to learn to love them.  My mother had dementia so I get that.   So the best thing you can do is to rake them away and bin them when they appear ... they will however reappear at this time of year unti the temperature drops ... which shouldn't be long now.  There isn't anything you can put on the soil to stop it happening I'm afraid.

That looks like honey fungus. As @Dovefromabove mentioned a view of the stem and underside would help confirm it. Did you notice if any of the stems had a skirt-like ring on them, near the cap?
  • Cant say I did, god I hope it's not that! No trees on border but an old oak tree stump that will not rot down, but it wasnt on that so much as clumps on the soil, then the odd few in amongst the plants.
  • Honey fungus is not necessarily a disaster ... only if you let it get you down ... @nutcutlet gardens very successfully with it.
