Amaryllis

I kept an amaryllis from last Xmas and it’s sent out two leaves which are now over 60cm long but the centre is “blind”. There doesn’t appear to be any further leaves or buds. What can I do?

In cynical mode I'd say this is a trick by horticulturists to force customers to buy new amaryllis bulbs every year. The bulbs are specially "forced" to display a great show of blooms once and never again. :p
However, if you browse the Web you'll find plenty of advice on the topic of getting amaryllis to re-bloom. I've never done it, maybe others on this forum will be able to provide first-hand experience.
    etc.

I throw mine outside for the summer, and feed the bulb. They need sun and feed to make new flowers. They then flower when they feel like it. I had an odd flower August this year.
If you want them to flower at Xmas, plant pre prepared bulbs now, better still get some of the ones Lidl have with two flower shoots just showing.  I know they will give me flowers soon.

Mine has been going strong for the past 4 years; sends out a flower stalk around May/June. This is the regrowth since I cut it down after flowering this year. So, probably you might get a flower stalk soon.

I have one that I have mostly neglected for at least 10 years and it blooms every spring. It has been repotted once or twice and I have had four bulblets from it (although they have never bloomed themselves). I suppose that if I did the right work I could get it to bloom for Xmas but I never actually do it.
