    It's a euonymous, but I don't know which one.
  • I’ve never known of euonymus that looks like that! Only the smaller variegated shrubs. Thank you, I’ve learnt something new today!

Euonymous alatus - which is a different species to the fortunei ones you probably know @EmmaGreen. Most of them are grown for their lovely for autumn colour  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Lovely - thank you. :)
  • If you saw it on a walk, it’s probably Euonymus europaeus, the native plant.

Agree with Cambridgerose12..Euonymus europaeus...common name spindle.
    Seed capsules are different.
    Below.....
1 to 4 Euonymus alatus...small,single seed per capsule
    4 to 8 Euonymus europaeus...bigger 4 segments..4 seeds

    Deciduous Euonymus are wonderful.
Should be better known...they usually turn a fab colour in the autumn and have amazing seed capsules...flowers small easily missed.

My very favourite for interesting seed capsules is Euonymus cornutus quinquecornutus

  • They’re lovely! Do you know a good place that I could buy one from? I’d love one for my garden. I’m in Oxfordshire but I could buy online, although I’ve never bought a tree online before. Thanks

May I recommend you start with shrubby one Euonymus alatus compacta...pics below.
Pic 3.....This is a young plant in our new garden.
For taller try Euonymus europaeus Red Cascade.
You should be able to buy these in any good Garden centre now...before lock down on Thursday!
