New Garden - Plant ID Three Of Three

A Friend has moved house and has identified most plants etc in the new garden but we are struggling a little on three of them.  We have ideas but can't be sure.  Here is shrub number three, we have no idea what this could be at all.  Trying to work out which ones are worth keeping and which one have to go.

    I'd agree with @rachelQrtJHBjb :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you so much.  This one's a surprise as it looks nothing like my friends Laurel she had at her previous house which was a Portuguese Laurel too. Very Different indeed.

I'm told i'm removing it next weekend with plans to replace it with something else, possibly a small fruit tree.

Not possible. A Portuguese laurel is a Portuguese laurel is a Portuguese laurel is a Portuguese laurel. ;)

Perhaps it was a cherry laurel she had @Cottage Compost - Prunus laurocerasus  :)

  • Nope not a Prunus laurocerasus.  I have this one as a hedge.   Just because....  I've asked my friend if she has any photos of her previous Laurel, so we can compare them.

My memory is of a compact / tall and very erect tree like structure with a single central trunk.  I remember her buying them from a local mature tree supplier. I struggled to get them in the van, i had to put them on ladders on the roof rack.  It did flower and the flowers were what i expected from a Laurel.  I remember a pale green leaf and no red stems at all and new growth was vertical from the main stem. Don't recall the leafs having a noticeable shiny look to them.

Having googled images of Portuguese Laurel there does seem to be a wide variety of images that are supposed to be Portuguese Laurels that look very different from each other..... Is it an age thing?

At the end of the day though, she's happy that it is a Laurel and has decided it has to go and it will be replaced by something with more to offer, probably a fruit tree.
