Its a lovely way to give the area a nice look, this is mine when first planted a year ago.

    Mine's a soggier version @purplerallim ;)

Stump is quite small, and moss covered

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • It was an Ash stump but I could tell when the roots finally gave up by the lines of fungi growing out of the lawn. Was several years after the tree was cut though.

I love moss @Fairygirl at least on wood, not paths😉 just wish I could do those moss balls that were at Chelsea flower show.😍

I've got moss everywhere here @purplerallim - kind of goes with the territory  ;)

  • Hmm. I have a 4ft diameter poplar stump.

    Good ideas.

  • Its really satisfying to use an area that could be an eye sore for years @Ferdinand2000 , as it takes tree stumps ages to go. At four foot its the size of a tub! Could drill it out and use it as a bed.😁

I thought about making it into a table with the first section, but it is Poplar and that would not last for many years.

I think my favourite idea if possible is to leave it 3 or 4m tall as a stump and plant climbers etc for the birds.

At that height you could still drill holes and plant trailing plants  providing cover and food for birds @Ferdinand2000 😁

P.S. maybe at the top drill a few holes for nesting sites? 🤔

Unfortunately this one I couldn't do that.

The one with the climbers was one done by mum in the huge garden where I grew up. It (the garden) was a couple of acres and had a whole woodland down one side; there was a row of 3 fully grown Turkey Oaks down each side of the drive.
