There's a big difference between judging what someone says today by today's standards, no matter how old the person saying them - which is fair - and judging what someone said in the 1970s by 2020s mores. Anyone can learn to behave better, in time. It wasn't right then, any more than it is now, but not everyone realised that. Sean Connery wasn't stupid by any means, but he wasn't well educated and, like most people, probably learned his attitudes from those around him when he grew up. I have no idea whether he became wiser with age. I rarely read interviews with 'celebrities' and have no interest in what most of them think - they have so little contact with people's reality, most of them, I don't see what they can add to a debate. I'll make an exception for those that specifically set out to become politically influential - they evidently have something to say. As far as I know, Sean Connery never gave his opinion unless asked.- he wasn't a campaigner, except for Scottish independence, was he?
He was an actor so his legacy is in his films (many of which are great) not his politics or opinions (most of which are not great).
I prefer Daniel Craig's Bond films, they are just better films, whoever has the lead role. It is true to say though that James Bond would not have been the franchise it is had it not been for Connery doing it so well. He has kept quite a lot of cinemas open in the UK (witness the impact deferring the release of the latest one has had on cinemas closing). So has indirectly been responsible for a lot of people being kept in work for decades
