Cherry Tree fungus??

Hi I have a cherry blossom tree which has this odd waxy blob on it. It's grown since it first appeared. Any idea what it is and how to get rid of it. Worried it will damage tree

That looks like a fungus of some kind, indicating that there’s some internal rot.

If @steephill is around, or @wild edges ... they may be able to ID it.

It does look like quite a mature tree ... but it doesn’t look like cherry bark to me

It's fungi from Phellinus species. There are so many fungi from this specie but it is most likely Phellinus pomaceus or Phelinus igniarius.
