Hibiscus Walberton Rose Moon

Hello all

Hope your keeping well in these strange times.

We have the above plant bought a couple of months ago and it flowered well.

I'm the last few weeks it's leaves turned yellow and now they have all dropped leaving just two sticks essentially.

Is this supposed to happen and should the sticks now be cut back for winter.

I've tried reading up on it but I'm none the wiser.

Thanks all - picture is how it looked when we bought it but literally it's just the stems now.

This is a hardy shrub which loses its leaves for winter.   Planted out in a  sheltered spot it will produce new buds late next spring - be patient as it can be very late - and then should flower for a very long period over summer and into autumn.

While it is still young I wouldn't prune it but check it next spring for any frost damaged tips and then cut back to a healthy bud once all danger of further frosts is over.

    Hi

Thank you, that's what I assumed but just wasn't sure.  Thanks for your help.
  • It looks quite closely planted to the wall...make sure it has enough space to grow, they eventually become large plants.

Oh,  there is space in front and to the side of it.    Should it be moved? I'm always scared to move plants.
  • It can be up to 1.5m metres wide, you'd ideally want to allow 80cm from the wall. If you have that then no problem! Easier to move recently planted specimens than wait later on.
