Jupiter’s beard - strange new leaves - ailment?

Hello
i have a Jupiter’s beard that seems happy but recently I noticed these strange leaves, curling and bubbling. Does anyone know what this could be?
i appreciate any help with this.

    Looks like insect damage to me. What is inside the curled up leaves - aphids or a grub?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Yes I thought some kind of caterpillar too but then on closer inspection it did not seem to be either of these. I will have another look

    The plant is a Centranthus (Valerian). If it was a fuchsia I’d say it was caused by a gall mite, similar symptoms don’t know if they suffer as well.

    Hi Lyn, thank you very much. I just looked this up and I think some kind of gall mite is the culprit. Luckily it is only a few leaves so hopefully I can nip this in the bud!

    The plant will lose its leaves over winter anyway, you could cut them back a bit now and put the cuttings in the dustbin, not the compost heap.
