Silly question!

Hello everyone, so this is going to sound completely silly! Feel embarrassed asking really as I don’t consider myself a novice gardener. I’m planting daffs albeit a bit late. It says plant at 10cm deep approx, would it be the top or the bottom of the bulb that should sit at 10cm? Or am I overthinking this? Thanks!

I always class it as the bottom,  although to be honest l usually just judge it by 2 to 3 times the height of the bulb.  :)

    The bottom.
Usual way is to plant at about three times the depth of the bulb. A 2 inch bulb would therefore have a 6 inch hole. Slightly deeper is always better than too shallow  :)

I expect it was a "silly" question that needed answering for most of us the first time we planted spring bulbs.  As @Fairygirl says, better to plant deep than shallow if in doubt.   They'll sort themselves out better then.

I've often thought that it's slightly ambiguous when you hear ' 2 or 3 times the depth' because it isn't always clear whether that's the amount of soil over the bulb, or if it includes the bulb itself.  :)

I've always taken it as the depth over the top of the bulb but if the truth be told, I just dig a hole and shove the bulb in.
