Unhappy Magnolias

I have a magnolia stellata & magnolia Susan. I planted them in June in partial shade and they have been very happy & healthy. Over the last month they have been putting on growth but now all the edges of the leaves are turning dark brown and they are not happy. What is wrong and what should I do??? 😢

  • It's autumn. They are deciduous. Probably nothing but that :)

I'd agree. If they're only in partial shade, and you're in a hotter, drier area, they may have been a little fried at the ends, especially being planted in summer, and they look like quite sizeable specimens.  Those branch ends will have struggled a bit to stay hydrated.
Any bigger shrub would have been the same.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Agree with others - just the time of year.  My M. Stellata (ignore the begonias - had nowhere else to put them) and M. Susan:

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thank you everyone. Now I'm reassured they are not dying! 🙂Hopefully they will burst into flower in the spring ....🤗
