Garlic

Hi
I have planted some elephant and other garlic in pots of compost, having tried unsuccessfully in the ground. My question is whether I need to use fertiliser and if so which one would you use? I know you can buy specific garlic fertiliser but not sure if its necessary or can you can use a general one which is high in nitrogen.
Also - would you use the same fertiliser for your onions!
thank you

  • What went wrong when you tried before?
  • They seemed to just rot in the ground or were tiny like marble size
  • I've just got some Elephant Garlic to set and stupidly deleted the programme when Monty set his a couple of weeks ago.
Can anyone remember the tips he gave?
  • Thank you

I plant 100 every year and this year I am placing them in well rotted manure that has been on the soil for 6 weeks.

They tend to spring up a bit so every day I push them down.

It will be interested to see their overall progress.
