I find that moss takes a very long time to rot down. I would also be concerned about the possibility of grass seeds or roots from couch grass being amongst the thatch. For that reason all the rakings from our lawn go into the council garden waste bin. They do their composting at much higher temperatures than we do.

I compost mine though it is very much more thatch than moss. The problem is the huge quantity generated - enough to fill the green recycling bin at least three times. By the time of the final filling it would be a slimy decomposed mess. Instead I mix it with straw in the compost bin, nearly a full bale.
I keep some moss, although I have too much here and leave most of it in the grass The bundle I keep gets stored in a dry place, and I then put it out for the birds in late winter for nests. Some goes in the hog house too.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

that confirms what I suspected, I have a growing mountain of the stuff...
