Aster? ID

I'm usually very good at keeping labels but have lost this one. I think it's an aster but I wonder if anyone can tell me what one. The colour is actually more indigo than the picture shows.

Oh and ignore the horrible mildew, I would have hacked it back but wanted it to flower so I could ID it.

Thanks

Can't help with the name but as it's got mildew it could be a Symphyotrichum novi-belgii  the new name for new england asters.
There is one called Peter 111 but I don't think it's as dark but it's so hard to tell from photos as every photo  looks a different colour.
Have your flowers got the yellow centre that aster usually have?
  • This site may help you ID it. https://www.autumnasters.co.uk/
As @K67 says, flowers in the blue/purple spectrum can look so different in photos, making it very difficult to get the identification right.

Hmm, just checked and no yellow centre, maybe not an aster at all then?

Thank you, I'll have a browse. Yes I found it impossible to get a photo that looked the same as my eye could see, whatever settings I used
  • I bought one recently called 'Blue Lapis' and it is the closest to a true blue I have ever seen in a Michaelmas daisy - a wonderful, deep royal blue with the merest hint of purple.
It's a short one and will look great at the front of the border while Alma Potschke is strutting her stuff at the back :)
