My Camellia Japonica is dying and I don’t know why!

I have a lovely Camellia Japonica planet that has been very happy indoors for years.

Recently in the past three weeks or so, it has become very sick. I don’t have any idea why. The leaves have started to turn brown from the centre out, and they are dropping off of the branches like paper.

It’s so puzzling. I have no idea why this could be, I haven’t changed anything recently. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to save it, if anything?

Thank you very much!

  • Hmmm... it looks to me like something fungal. Are there dark patches on the stems too?

Somehow I have a sense it may be connected with overwatering, but you say you haven't changed anything? Tbh, I'm surprised it would have coped this long with being indoors, that's not ideal for them. Has it been repotted since you acquired it?
  • Thank you Cambridgerose12 for your kind reply.  There aren't any dark patches on the stems, just the leaves which have gone brown and crispy.  It's so strange.  I've not changed anything, except for giving it Baby Bio (mixed into water) about three weeks ago.  I have no idea what could be going wrong.

It's indoors. It shouldn't be. I'm also surprised it's survived that long.  :)

It's not a houseplant- so Baby Bio certainly wouldn't be good for it.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
